Convert to MP4 with subtitles

Hi all!

I have been working for a way to convert the DivX encoded avi files to MP4.

My requirement is that I want the subtitles also.

Question No: 1
Can the Ipod support video files, with subtitles as a separate file?  Like you play avi files in vlc player, with the subtitles (.srt etc) in the same folder?

Question No: 2
If the subtitles need to be hardcoded, and if there is no way that Ipod can show subtitles which are in separate file, then which is the best program to convert avi to MP4 with hard coded subtitles, where subtitles are shown prominently on the Ipod screen.

I have used Xilisoft.  It was fine, the subtitles were too good, but audio sync is failing sometimes.

I have tried WinAVI.  It's a good program for very quick conversion, but the size of the subtitles were too small to read on an Ipod screen.

Any suggestions, please?

Re: Convert to MP4 with subtitles

There were some great tutorials here but because the site is going thru some changes and is due to merge into hexagon.cc , i see they are gone.

One of the former users here that posted some great stuff is active on Demonoid and I'm sending you this link to one of his tutorials:

Part 1 of the tutorial
Part 2 of the tutorial

Hope it helps!
Enjoy your stay on Podtropolis wink

Re: Convert to MP4 with subtitles

Thanks Lawrence, for your quick reply.

The tutorial is a good one, quite comprehensive.

But still, my question is about the size of subtitles, and its font.  Can these be manipulated?

Thanks for your welcome message.

Update: I found the answer for my own question.  Of course, it was not through WinAVI or Xilisoft.

I used Corel Video Studio this time, and they have the solution for this.  Even the conversion was good, without any problems of audio sync.

Thanks Lawrence, again.

Mod Edit: You might want to have a quick look through them so you don't accidentally break any others.
